The Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA), Censorship, and the Selection of Library Materials for Children and Young Adults
on

February 27th, 2008
4:00 pm-5:30 pm
Lewis Lounge

Do you believe that CIPA challenges the First Amendment and our Intellectual Freedom? Does that freedom extend to minors? Who is responsible for keeping tabs on what children are viewing on public computers? Do librarians inadvertently censor materials in their selection process for library materials for children and young adults? Please join us for a discussion on how CIPA and censorship affects what we read and what we may be able view on any public or school computer.

The discussion panel will include:
Deirdre Brennan, Director, Oak Park Public Library
Janice Del Negro, Assistant Professor, Dominican University
Andrew Medlar, Youth Materials Specialist, Chicago Public Library
