American Heart Month

The human heart is looked at as a symbol of love by many Americans in the month of February. However, many people do not realize that their symbol of love is at risk of disease if it is not treated with care. American Heart Month is every February and it is the perfect time for people to show their hearts some love by keeping healthy.

Being the number one killer of both men and women in the United States, cardiovascular disease is quite a threat. It prohibits millions of Americans from daily activities and causes many physical disabilities. American Heart Month opens people’s eyes to risk factors and prevention of an unhealthy heart.

Controlling your risk factors for heart disease is the first step to a healthier life. Some risk factors that the individual can control include diet, physical activity, tobacco and alcohol use, obesity, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol; all of which can be conquered with determination.

Start off your February strong and healthy by obtaining new habits. Exercising for 30 minutes every day, reducing the intake of alcohol and tobacco, consuming a healthy diet, and reducing blood pressure are great ways to prevent cardiovascular disease. In honor of American Heart Month, join American by getting healthy to make your heart happy.
