Every year we learn more about the animals that we share the earth with. Earlier we learned that dogs can sense the earth’s magnetic field. Scientists have not even learned why dogs can do this, and how this affects dogs at all. Now, we know something completely new about elephants as well.
Elephants can distinguish between groups of human voices. The elephants the scientists studied co-exist with different groups of human beings in Kenya. They reacted more defensively to the group of males who were more likely to hunt them when compared to a second social group of males who live in the same area and who rarely hunt the animals. The elephants could tell the difference between groups who were male, female, and children. While we get closer every day to understanding the animals around us, they may get closer every day to understanding us as well.
