Nov 2 – Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos)

The Day of the Dead, also referred to as Día de lose Muertos, is a three day celebration taking place from October 31 until November 2, where family and friends gather to remember and pray for those who have died. Popular traditions with this celebration include the preparation and decoration of altars to honor those who have passed, sugar skulls, as well as the deceased favorite foods which will be placed at their graves as forms of gifts. Although Day of the Dead originated in the Mexican culture, there are strong ties to similar celebrations such as Dia de Finados in Brazil, Bon Festival for Japanese Buddhist, Qingming Festival in China, and various celebrations in Africa.
