Top 10 Things to Know About the Library at Dominican

10. Hours
The Library is open from 8:00am to 12:00midnight, 7 days a week.

9. Getting Help
A librarian is at the reference desk on the lower level of the Library, ready to help you with your research, from 9:00am to 10:00pm Monday through Saturday, and 12:00noon to 10:00pm on Sunday.  You may also call the reference desk at 708-524-6875, x6875 on campus; or send us an email at reference@dom.edu.  You may also use . . .

8. Chat Reference
Make the reference desk your buddy.  Our screen name in Yahoo, Windows Messenger, AIM and Google Talk is domreference. If you don’t have an IM account, you can use our meebo chat window on the Library Web site.

7. Group Study Rooms
Several group study rooms are available on the second floor of the Library.  These are first come first serve.

6. Over 26,000 Periodicals
The Library subscribes to over 26,000 journals, magazines and newspapers.  Most of these are available electronically through our over 100 databases.  The print periodicals are located on the lower level of the Library.  If we don’t have the journal you need, you can use . . .

5. Resource Sharing (Interlibrary Loan)
Fill out our online article request form and we will order your article from another library.  Articles are free and are emailed to you as a PDF.  Just make sure to get your requests in as early as possible.  Some articles do take several weeks to come in.  You need a student ID number in order to place requests.  If we don’t have the book you need, you can use . . .

4. I-Share
First, check Dominican’s catalog to see if the book you need is available here.  If it’s not, use the I-Share catalog to request them.  I-Share contains the holdings for over 70 libraries in Illinois, including Dominican.  You also need a student ID number to use I-Share.  Requests are free and usually take only 2-3 days.  You can have books sent to Dominican or to any other I-Share library, and may return them at any I-Share library.  To see a list of the books you have checked out, and to renew them, use MyAccount.

3. Media Center
The Media Center, located on the lower level of the Library, contains hundreds of feature films and documentaries you can check out.  The Center also has a viewing room and several individual televisions for watching movies your instructors have put on reserve.

2. RefWorks
RefWorks is an online bibliographic management tool that stores your references and automatically generates bibliographies and in-text citations.  Come to a RefWorks workshop this fall.  The workshop schedule, and more information about RefWorks, is available on Library tab of MyDU.

1.  The Library is fun and the Library staff rocks your face off.
